“Nowhere Fast” is the opening song for the 1984 movie Streets of Fire. The movie is described as “A Rock & Roll Fable” which takes place in “another time, another place.” It stars a then 20-year old Diane Lane and Michael Pare’ as the leads. It also stared actors such as Rick Moranis, Willem Dafoe, Amy Madigan, Bill Paxton, Robert Townsend, and singer Lee Ving. While not doing well, it has become a cult classic for those who love its eclectic style and the dense style of Wagnerian rock music.
The song was performed by Fire Inc, a studio group put together to perform the songs for the movie. The vocals are performed by Laurie Sargent and Holly Sherwood. It was written by composer/producer Jim Steinman, who wrote many of Meat Loaf’s hits. It hits hard, fast, and has an epic sound.
The Expert level follows the vocals with some instruments to act as a cue. The Expert+ is much more aggressive with drum rifts, piano slides, and bringing in some of the complementary instruments.
Trivia: Streets of Fire is one of the inspirations for Mike Pondsmith’s Cyberpunk tabletop Roleplaying Game, which, in turn, is the source material for CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 computer game. In older editions of the game, it was a recommended watch to see how epic Rockerboys and Rockergirls are supposed to be.
I hope you enjoy rocking out with the levels mapped for this song!
