A Strong First Map! Keep an Eye on Maybeemae!
Maybeemae loves to dance to the Beat Saber maps she plays! When she decided to try her own hand at mapping, she chose a dance-y song and made a dance-y map, so you can dance too!
The expert level is the real shining gem of this map. One of the things I like about it is that it has some very unusual patterns, especially the wide crossovers. Anyone who’s played my maps knows I’m no stranger to wide crossovers, but these add an additional challenge by keeping the sabers crossed over for multiple hits before returning to their normal side. Once you get used to it, you’ll really get the whole-body dancing feeling she’s going for. I actually appreciate the challenging nature of some of the patterns. Many of my favorite maps have challenging patterns. The reward is that much greater when you finally do nail it!
The other levels are also very well done. Bravo, Maybeemae, for taking the time to map something for everybody! One nice thing about multiple difficulty maps is that players just starting out can play a song they really like and eventually work their way up to expert.
Maybeemae was coached through the mapping process by myself and MajorPickle. We helped her understand the mapping tools, some best practices, and how to make the map flow, but I have to tell you, this map is all her! It does not feel like a TechButterfly map or a MajorPickle map. It feels like Maybeemae map.
And that’s a good thing!
My first map! Down by Jay Sean hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2009 and was certified platinum in several countries. It is still one of my favourite songs to dance to and I hope you’ll think it’s also fun to slash boxes to!
ALL of the thank you’s to my playtesters, who were my coaches, mentors & gurus of everything – Techbutterfly, MajorPickle & Darkuni!
And huge thanks to Techbutterfly for lighting my map!
