It’s a little scary to try to map one of the greats, but King Peuche stepped up to the plate and gave us a home run!
Since there’s not a way to do variable BPM in our current editors, each note was placed by ear (I don’t want to know how many hours that took).
While it’s a fantastic accomplishment, the song itself reveals areas where BeatSaber as a game falls short and doesn’t work as perfectly on all genres. To give us something interesting to do, parts of the mapping follows the vocals, other parts follow the guitar and other parts follow the drums. You can sometimes loose a bit of flow when these switches happen.
The other area where the mapping sometimes fell short was in the patterns used. There were a few spots that I thought would have a bit more punch with a more flow like pattern using two hands.
The last comment I’ll make is in the audio quality. Peuche mentioned that he adjusted the quiet sound. That volume sounded fine, but the low quality 111 kbps ogg file showed its colors on weaker bass hits and swishing highs.
Overall, Peuche did a fantastic job on one of the greatest songs ever made and should be proud of his work. Now excuse me while I play it again…
Notes from the author:
Now I know what you’re thinking, “Why hasn’t anybody done this yet!?”.
Well there are two primary reasons, the first being the Loudness war (Google that) has caused all original Bohemian Rhapsody files online to be absurdly quiet. The second being that the Editor does not function ideally with songs that have multiple BPMs.
Did I edit the audio to make it possible to be heard through the saber slashes? Yes.
Did I have to go through this entire process and put the notes in by ear rather than with Beat Snapping? Also yes.
Did I do it for you, the player, to be able to enjoy Beat Saber to perhaps the greatest song of all time? Hell yes I did, and I did it because the world deserves to finally see this damned masterpiece in the game.
Feel free to leave your experiences and feedback below. Any comment, good or bad, means the world to me.
