I've never actually played Shovel Knight but I hear so many good things about it, maybe this will actually push me to try it.
This is a song from the OST of Shovel Knight. It's 8bit style, so if you don't like this kind of music, you can pass this one. If you DO like the style, you will love this one. It's super fast and catchy. The mapping is based on the melody, so super fast paced and with quick changes. It works really well and the twitch movements required are quite satisfying to achieve.
Because it is so fast, this song is quite difficult and because it's 8bit style, it's very repetitive as the main verse/chorus repeat 2-3 times each. It would have been nice to have a shortened version.
I've been playing music games for about 15 years now. I started on a crappy DDR mat at home, even now I still have a Cobalt Flux I regularly use. I also played stepmania, Taiko no tatsujin, GH, and more recently a lot of Soundboxing. I think all this experience helps me figuring out what makes a good song or not, though I agree it's also very subjective. Hopefully my input will help you dissociate the gems from the turds.
